About Seed Rate Calculator
Calculates adjusted seed rate for 8 crops based on sowing method (broadcast adds 20%, transplanting uses 5%), actual germination percentage, area and seed price. Shows total seed required in kg, seed cost, and estimated plant population from row ร plant spacing. Includes crop-specific tips on seed treatment and germination management. Quick-reference table shows recommended seed rates, 1000-seed weight and spacing for all crops.
Crops Supported
Rice (Paddy), Wheat, Maize (Corn), Cotton, Soybean, Groundnut, Onion, Tomato. Each crop has pre-loaded recommended seed rates and spacing.
Sowing Method Adjustments
Broadcast: Seed scattered manually โ requires 20% more seed due to uneven distribution. Line sowing: Drilling in rows โ standard seed rate (baseline). Transplanting: Nursery raising then transplanting โ uses only 5% of direct-sown seed rate.
Germination Percentage Adjustment
If germination is below 90%, seed rate must be increased. Formula: Adjusted rate = Recommended rate ร (90 รท Actual germination %). This ensures target plant population.
Spacing and Plant Population
Row spacing ร plant spacing determines plant population per unit area. The calculator shows both plant population and recommended spacing for each crop.
Seed Treatment Tips
Rice: Soak in salt solution (remove floating seeds), treat with fungicide. Wheat: Treat with carbendazim or thiram for loose smut. Maize: Treat with thiram or carbendazim. Cotton: Acid delinting required for machine sowing. Soybean: Treat with Rhizobium culture. Groundnut: Treat with thiram or carbendazim. Onion: Treat with thiram for seedling health. Tomato: Treat with trichoderma for disease resistance.
