About Livestock Feed Calculator
Calculates daily feed ration (green fodder, dry fodder/straw, concentrate feed, mineral mixture) for 7 animal types: HF/Jersey cow, buffalo, goat, sheep, pig, poultry, and bullock. Adjusts ration based on body weight, production purpose (maintenance, milk production 5L or 10L/day, meat, work animal, pregnant) and season (summer +10%, winter +5%). Shows monthly feed cost per animal and total for the herd.
Animal Types
HF/Jersey cow: 400-600 kg, high milk production. Buffalo: 500-700 kg, higher fat milk. Goat: 20-50 kg, small ruminant. Sheep: 20-50 kg, wool and meat. Pig: 50-200 kg, meat production. Poultry: 1-3 kg, eggs or meat. Bullock: 400-600 kg, draft animal.
Feed Components
Green fodder: Fresh grass, maize, sorghum, legume fodder. Provides bulk, fibre, and some nutrients. Dry fodder/straw: Wheat straw, rice straw, hay. Provides fibre for rumen function. Concentrate feed: Grains (maize, wheat), oilcakes (soybean, groundnut), bran. Provides energy and protein. Mineral mixture: Calcium, phosphorus, trace minerals, vitamins. Essential for production and reproduction.
Production Purpose Adjustments
Maintenance: Basic feed for survival. Milk production (5L/day): Additional feed for 5 litres milk. Milk production (10L/day): Additional feed for 10 litres milk. Meat production: Higher energy for weight gain. Work animal: Extra energy for draft work. Pregnant: Additional nutrients for foetal development.
Seasonal Adjustments
Summer (+10%): Animals need more water and energy to maintain body temperature. Winter (+5%): Extra energy for thermoregulation. Monsoon: Standard ration, but ensure dry shelter and quality feed.
Monthly Feed Cost Calculation
Cost per kg ร daily quantity ร 30 days = monthly cost per animal. For herd, sum across all animals. Helps farmers budget for feed expenses.
Feeding Guidelines
Always provide clean, fresh water ad libitum. Introduce new feeds gradually over 7-10 days. Maintain consistent feeding times. Store feed in dry, rodent-proof containers. Check for mould or spoilage before feeding.
